We are celebrating being awarded for 10 consecutive years!
Wilsons Auctions has been named as one of Ireland’s Best Managed companies for the tenth consecutive year, in the Deloitte Best Managed Companies Awards programme, in association with Bank of Ireland.
Ireland and the UK’s largest independent auction company has demonstrated superior business performance for a decade now and was recognised at a gala awards dinner in Dublin on 1 March 2019.
Wilsons Auctions, established in 1936, has seen significant growth over the past 10 years expanding to 18 sites across Ireland and the UK and now employs in excess of 400 staff. Over the past year alone the progressive auction company has not only seen the volume of auctions expand across the group, now hosting 2,000 auctions annually, but it now works on behalf of clients worldwide and has recently expanded its offering to cryptocurrency, successfully hosting the world's first ever auction of Bitcoin by a private company last month.
From property, vehicles, plant and machinery to specialist equipment, general goods and high-end valuables, Wilsons Auctions also manages the asset realisation process for private and public sector as well as law enforcement agencies. Dealing with the collection, valuation and auctioning of assets on behalf of its extensive client base, the auction company welcomes over 500,000 physical visitors to its auction sites and 24 million visits worldwide to its website annually.
Commenting on the award, Peter Johnston, Wilsons Auctions Group Operations Director said: “We are thrilled to be marking this milestone of ten years as a Deloitte Best Managed Company. As a family-owned business, Wilsons Auctions has seen significant growth throughout this time and to be awarded consecutively over the past decade gives us the encouragement that our efforts have been worthwhile. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the staff for their hard work and dedication as we continue to strive to give our clients and customers the best possible auction service and experience.”
This year, 12 new companies join a network of 136 companies that were awarded the status of Best Managed. The Best Managed Companies network this year has total revenues of almost €11 billion, export sales of almost €3 billion and total employment of approximately 44,000 people.
Anya Cummins, Partner, Deloitte said: “Well done to all of the winning companies on their achievement. The Best Managed Companies process is a rigorous one, examining every facet of an organisation, and the bar is set high by our judging panel. As ever, the spread of companies, right around the country and across a number of industries, underlines the importance of Irish and Northern Irish companies to the economy and in the midst of economic uncertainty, technology disruption, an open competitive market and full employment, the continued strong performance of these businesses is admirable. In the current environment, it is important for this contribution to be recognised, supported and showcased.”
Tom Hayes, Chief Executive, Bank of Ireland Corporate Banking said: “It’s a challenging time for businesses in general, with the operating environment consistently and rapidly changing, due to technological developments, new ways of doing things, and challenges on the macroeconomic horizon. The Best Managed Companies this year have demonstrated that they can optimise each area of their business while always operating with an acute awareness of their environment, recognising the opportunities of expansion into global markets, in addition to strategic alliances and partnerships. I look forward to their continued growth.”
The Deloitte Best Managed Companies programme, in association with Bank of Ireland, promotes and recognises excellence in Irish/Northern Irish owned and managed companies. It is the only awards scheme on the island of Ireland that considers a business’ performance from every perspective. Entrants to the programme will compete for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates the calibre of their management abilities and practices.
A family owned business, Wilsons Auctions was formed in 1936 in Northern Ireland and has grown to become the largest independent Auction Company in the British Isles with sites in the Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.
