Showjumpers scoop top prize money in Wilsons Auctions Ulster Region Final

There was razor sharp competition at the Ulster Region SJI League final as riders claim top spots.

Kernan’s Equestrian Centre was host to the final leg of the Wilsons Auctions Ulster Region Showjumping Series. To qualify for the final on Saturday 10th September, horses and riders had to compete at a minimum of two previous legs of the Northern Ireland series.

Significant sponsorship from Wilsons Auctions and Showjumping Ireland gave the series a prize fund in excess of £10,000.

Featuring classes such as 90cm, 1m, 110cm, 120cm and 135 Grand Prix, the Ulster Regional Series catered to a range of abilities plus highlighted some of the country’s top talent.

Consistent performances throughout the summer saw Nicole Kershaw drive home with multiple podium finishes including the 1st & 2nd in the 1.20m league, and the 1.35m Grand Prix league title.

Commenting on the success, Lisa Rosbotham of Keenan Stables said, “We’re delighted with Saturday’s results. The three mares are extremely consistent and are always answering any questions Nicole asks of them. The 1.35m Grand Prix win felt that little bit special as Valent himself won the same league 12 years ago as an 8 year old. He’s been a great servant for us over the years, both in competition and as a breeding stallion!”

The 1.10m league was rightfully won by Emma Jackson and the 1m league was triumphed by Paddy Ward. A huge field of approximately 2000 competitors competed across the 13 legs of the summer series.

Presenting prizes on the day, Tori Dixon, Marketing Manager at Wilsons Auctions said, “I received great feedback from the league, and it seems to have been extremely popular amongst competitors in both the North and the South of Ireland. The sponsorship allows riders to compete for a fantastic prize pot. On behalf of Wilsons Auctions, I would like to congratulate all the prize winners of the league.”

Ulster Region National Competitions and Horse Committee Representative, Michael Cave concluded, “Saturday’s finals produced great sport with the exciting Dunlop Homes Grand Prix which went down to the wire. Johnathan and Nicole’s battle for top spot was a great advert for our sport.”

“The Ulster Region greatly appreciate Wilsons Auctions’ sponsorship of the league. With almost £11,000 in league prizes decided on Saturday, it’s no surprise it has been so competitive since the league started. It’s a fantastic boost for our riders and owners to jump for such substantial prize money.”

“I would also like to thank James Kernan and his team for a top venue and Dunlop Homes for extra sponsorship. Thank you to everyone who supported the series throughout the summer months, and I look forward to building on this.”
