Golden hour at Wilsons Auctions as proceeds of crime assets go under the hammer

An extensive range of seized 22ct gold bangles, instructed on behalf of the National Crime Agency (NCA), will be available to bidders this September at Wilsons Auctions.

Worth of over £300,000 and split over 35 Lots, Wilsons Auctions is delighted to manage the sale of the gold in an upcoming luxury auction. The quantity of gold will be sold unreserved, meaning it will go to the highest bidder of the auction.

The gold bangles were seized from a supposed trader who was couriering them between the UK and Dubai. Investigators from the National Crime Agency found that the trader was wrongly taking advantage of customs procedures and had done so on several previous occasions and concluded that he was merely acting as a courier and that his business was a sham. After a lengthy legal battle which went to an appeal, the Courts ordered the forfeiture of the gold under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Presented in a timed online format, the luxury auction will open bidding at 2pm GMT on Wednesday 28th September. Registered bidders will have a window of 48 hours to bid online before the auction begins to timeout from 11am GMT on Friday 30th September.

September’s luxury auction will include an exquisite collection of diamond jewellery. Allocated to the online auction is a 1920's Platinum Emerald-Cut Emerald Cocktail Ring with an estimated retail value of £250,000. Bidders will want to note the Tiffany & Co. signed Platinum Baguette-Cut Sapphire & Brilliant-Cut Diamond Pendant Necklace; another Lot with an estimated retail value of £250,000.

Wilsons Auctions’ Government Contracts Manager, Mark Woods commented, “We are proud to facilitate auctions on behalf of our government and law enforcement agency clients.
