Belfast’s Big Screen to go under the hammer

Belfast Big Screen to be auctioned in the Unreserved Government Auction on 23rd February.

The Belfast Big Screen, which has attracted people to the grounds of the City Hall for almost six years is set to be auctioned by Wilsons Auctions.

As instructed by Belfast City Council, the large 25 square metre SMD screen will go to public auction at Wilsons Auctions Belfast branch on Thursday 23rd February at 7pm.

The Big Screen, which will be sold as seen, has stood on the grounds of Belfast City Hall since June 2011. It was installed in the grounds of City Hall ahead of the London 2012 Olympics and was retained by the City Council to broadcast sporting events, BBC news and promotional videos for council supported initiatives.

The screen has the potential to be an attractive addition to a large sports organisation, tourism venue or local councils across the UK and Ireland as well as an investment for outdoor advertising agencies, event companies or large businesses.

Luxury items will also go under the hammer during Wilsons Auctions Unreserved Government Auction including a Ferrari, Bentley Continental, Mercedes-Benz AMG Sport as well as a 2003 Land Rover Defender.

Bidders will also have the chance to purchase from a large range of Asian gold, diamonds and a selection of Rolex, Bvlgari, and Cartier watches. Other items include ladies Christian Louboutin shoes, men’s designer shoes, a Bailey Ranger 510 Touring Caravan as well as a selection of property located in Northern Ireland, Wales and across Europe.

Wilsons Auctions’ Group Operations Director, Peter Johnston said, “The Unreserved Government Auction is one of our most diverse auctions and this month we have some fantastic Lots. Not only will we be auctioning our government assets including a large selection of Asian gold, a Ferrari, Bentley and designer watches but we are thrilled to have been appointed by Belfast City Council to auction the Belfast Big Screen which will be a unique addition to this auction and ultimately highlights our ability to auction everything.

“Wilsons Auctions has been responsible for returning in excess of £80 million back into the public purse in recent times, as a result of the role we play in realising important assets and facilitating these monthly government auctions on behalf of our clients. Items include government repossessed assets, proceeds of crime related assets as well as corporate liquidation stock, all of which are sold to the highest bidder with no reserve,” he added.

A family owned business, Wilsons Auctions was formed in 1936 in Northern Ireland and has grown to become the largest independent Auction Company in the British Isles with sites in the Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.

Wilsons Auctions is more than just an auction company, managing the whole asset realisation process for private and public sector and law enforcement agencies across the UK and Ireland.
